Air ambulance evacuation for a patient with severe abdominal sepsis

Air ambulance evacuation for the patient with severe abdominal sepsisWith this short letter I would like to express my gratitude, to the Cyprus Ministry of Health, the Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel as well as iMER Medical Services, who stood by my son during one of the hardest experiences of his life.

In December 2010, my son was urgently transferred to Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem, with the use of an air ambulance, suffering from severe abdominal sepsis. At the beginning he felt some pains in his belly, and I transferred him to Famagusta General Hospital, where he was immediately put into surgery. A week later infection appeared on the wound and he was urgently transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital, where he had a second laparotomy. The doctors then diagnosed that he had severe adhesion and perforation of his cecum.

I heard of iMER and the help that they could offer us and I decided to communicate with them. The staff and the doctors of the company collected all the necessary details on the condition of my son, so that they would make sure that he could be air evacuated, without further damaging his condition. When all logistic details for his transportation, hospitalization, and treatment, were arranged he was then transferred to Hadassah.

At Hadassah he had a laparotomy which showed a number of enteric content and severe peritonitis that was caused from a leak from the ceccstomy-tube. After a long and complex operation procedures the specialists of Hadassah cleaned the area and fixed the problem saving my son’s life.

During my son’s hospitalization in Israel we had the people of iMER at our side, who supported us psychologically, they were informing us every step of the procedure and provided us with all the help we needed.

I would like to finish this letter by expressing my sincere gratitude to the Cyprus Ministry of Health and especially the minister Dr. Christos Patsalides for the immediate and positive response for the coverage of my son’s medical expenses.

Kind Regards,

Theodoros Panayi
